When officers arrived, they found a 47-year-old man lying on the sidewalk with a large crowd of people near him, according to Lt. Eric Sheldon with Dayton police.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office identified that man as D’Ali Brown.

The man was shot and died from his injuries.

News Center 7’s Mike Campbell talked to Brown’s sister, Monique Brown, on Tuesday.

“My son woke me up, stating my brother is dead. I ran down here to see my brother laid out on the ground,” Monique said.

Monique said the sight of her brother lying there was shocking, as she was just with him.

“We chopped it up, we barbequed, he went home, and then I got this phone call,” she said.

Police said a 32-year-old suspect has been located and arrested.

Authorities didn’t name the suspect. However, Montgomery County Jail records indicate that 32-year-old Brenton Washington was booked on Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of murder and tampering with evidence.

“He lives over here. He lives near the building he got killed at, actually,” Monique said.

Monique described her brother as a sweetheart who focused on his children.

Several family members came together on Tuesday, looking for comfort and searching for answers.

“I’m devastated. I am just asking everybody, if you know anything, just to come forward because this is my brother,” Monique said.

It’s unclear what led up to this shooting or if anyone else is involved.

News Center 7 is working to learn more and will continue to follow this story.
