DAYTON — A dog died after being hit by gunfire when a Dayton home was shot at early Tuesday morning.

Dayton officers were dispatched just before 3 a.m. to the 100 block of Anna Street on a report of shots fired, according to a Montgomery County Regional Dispatch Center supervisor.

When police got to the scene, they found multiple gunshot holes in the victim’s home and shell casings were recovered, according to Dayton Police Lieutenant Eric Sheldon.
One of the family’s two dogs was hit by the gunfire and died from its injuries at the scene.
No other injuries were reported.
The case remains under investigation by detectives from the Dayton Police Department’s Violent Offender Unit.
