Our news crews saw several crews along the river at Constitution Park.
There was an initial call for three kayakers stranded on the water near Sugarcreek Township. Three kayakers lost their oars and made it to the riverbank safely.
Shortly afterwards, Patterson said that three more people were stranded five miles down the river.
Rusty Cross, Spring Valley Fire Chief, told our news crew that several agencies responded. He said that it is not safe to be out on the river right now.
“If you’re not an experienced canoe or kayaker, you should probably stay off the river, but even then, if you are an experienced one, you want to be out there with caution,” said Cross. “It’s very easily that water can overtake you.”
He also told our news crew that while it is nice out this weekend, people should give it at least another week before they hit the river.
