Dawne Yankasky started her morning folding laundry; minutes later she was chasing a man out of her house on Scarff Road in New Carlisle.

“I said, ‘If you guys are still here, then I’m gonna shoot you, so please leave,’” Yankasky said.

Her security camera captured both of the thieves outside; only one went inside.

“I heard somebody trying to break down the door,” she said. “He kicked the glass in.”

This comes after a break-in on Tuesday.

“They opened every door in my house. They disconnected the Wi-Fi, but they didn’t take anything,” Yankasky said.

After that, she and her husband put up security cameras.

For an unknown reason, the cameras turned off Thursday morning.

“They jumped in a, what we’re being told, a black four-door sedan,” Lt. Randy Slusher with the Miami County Sheriff’s Office said.

Yankasky was sure the break-ins were connected.

“I figured they would come back. I mean, if they didn’t take anything, then they were probably going to come back,” she said.

These crimes got the neighbors’ attention.

“This is a very safe area. People move here for the peace and quiet, and it’s pretty atypical for something like this to happen around here,” Elizabeth Burns said.

Yankasky said she did not aim at the man and did not want to hurt him.

But she was very clear: if they come back a third time, she will not stop shooting.
