FAIRBORN — A local Halloween festival begins this weekend.
Fairborn will be hosting its Halloween Festival, starting on Friday, Oct. 16 at 4 p.m.
As reported on News Center 7’s Daybreak, Foys is the oldest store in the city, opening in 1929 in “Osborn.” That’s when two villages, Osborn and Fairfield, were still separate, before merging into Fairborn in the 50s.

The store sits on Main Street where the festival takes place.
Kert Radel, the Executive Director of Fairborn’s Chamber of Commerce, said that Fairborn is really known for the theme of Halloween.
“You have Foy’s varieties where he has a number of different stores, you go in front of his stores, and you see different things that really tell you it’s Halloween,” said Radel.
People can stop by over 90 vendors along Main Street and Central Avenue. There are 40 food booths, a beer garden, amusement rides for kids, and live entertainment.
The Spooktacular Costume Contest and parade will be held Friday night, according to Fairborn’s Parks and Recreation.
April Floyd, the superintendent for Parks and Rec, said that the costume contest began in the 90s.
“Parks and Recreation took it over in 2002, so we’ve had it a little over 20 years and it gets bigger and bigger every year.
Floyd said that hundreds of kids show up in costumes, along with families as well. There are adult costume categories too.
Judging for the costume contest will begin at 6 p.m.
The parade will begin at dusk on Central Avenue.
Winners for the costume contest will be announced at the Halloween Festival after the parade.
Each winner will receive a spooky-themed trophy.
Trick-or-treating at each vendor will take place on Sunday at 2 p.m.
